Created by model Kimora Lee Simmons, wife of Russell Simmons, Def Jam hip-hop mogul and creator of Phat Farm and Baby Phat "urban market" clothing lines, Goddess was the premiere fragrance launched by the youth-oriented Baby Phat brand. Simmons signed a license agreement in September of 2004 with Coty to market fragrances under the Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons and Phat Farm brands.
Baby Phat urban fashion and lifestyle brand was established in 1999 and ended in 2010 when Simmons exited the company, while retaining ownership and licensing rights to her fragrance and cosmetics collection. On International Women's Day in 2019, Simmons announced the reacquisition of Baby Phat and relaunched the brand with the debut spring/summer 2020 collection featuring the brand's signature rhinestone cat logo.
