Created by perfumers Emilie Coppermann and Lucas Sieuzac under the direction of Givenchy's in-house nose, Francoise Donche, this fresh woody fragrance for men features top notes of bergamot, mandarin, bitter orange and grapefruit. The opening citrus notes blend into spicy black pepper, amyris wood, and coffee flower accord before the dry down finish of vetiver and patchouli.

The perfume bottle, created by artist Serge Mansau, was inspired by the MP3 music player in vogue when the Givenchy Play fragrance was released. The black and white fragrance ad campaign features original NSYNC frontman, and pop star solo artist Justin Timberlake captured by British fashion photographer Tom Munro. Launched in fall 2008 Givenchy Play was available in an eau de toilette spray and moisturizing aftershave.
