Cosmo Beauty - Star Scents
Famous femmes are creating perfumes that bear their names and evoke their essences. Here are the new A-list aromas.

Why We're Attracted to Famous Fragrances
It's no secret many young women are totally obsessed with celeb culture, and according to Elaine Garrod, a New Jersey psychologist, spritzing on a star-backed scent is an easy way to harness some of that A-list power. "We may never get to live like a famous person or even meet one, but wearing her perfume allows us to feel connected."

Beauty Reporter - Mood Enhancers
FEMININE - Seeking to exude elegance? Try a lush floral scent. The connection is ancient and all-natural. "Plants put out sweet scents to attract pollinators and use a visual display that is often beautiful, so there is a link between the sweet scent and the visual beauty," Gilbert says. "People see a flower and smell it and say, 'Ah, nice.' So in a way, women are like flowers." To convey youthfulness, Gilbert suggests choosing lighter, fruity florals.

ENERGIZED - For an instance invigorating boost, wear a fragrance infused with "sharp, clean scents like grapefruit and lemon," says Gilbert, who often uses those notes to formulate shower gels. "Citrus fruits are acidic - when you eat an acidic fruit it gets your saliva going and prepares you to eat." Similarily, when you smell a citrus fragrance, he says, "you pucker up and expect to encounter something more. It's uplifting and alerting."

Favorite Scents of the Stars

  • Shalimar by Guerlain, $60 / 1.7 oz.
"I used to wear Shalimar. If I smelled it now it would totally take me back to my childhood and my older sister. She wore it, so I borrowed hers." – Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon
  • Iris Nobile by Acqua di Parma, $74 / 1.7 oz.; Neiman Marcus
"I love Acqua di Parma's Iris Nobile. It's classic. I just bought it at the Santa Maria Novella pharmacy on Melrose." – Jordana Brewster
